Merit Scholarships! Don’t Miss The Deadline!


What are Merit Scholarships?

Many colleges offer Academic Merit scholarships based on some combination of your GPA, rank and/or SAT/ACT scores and information in your college application. Some colleges actually list the merit awards so you can see what level of academic merit you might qualify for based on your credentials.


How do you apply for Merit Scholarships?

Usually you are automatically considered for the Merit Scholarships when you submit your college application. Most colleges do not require any additional application for the Merit Scholarships.


Don’t Miss the Deadline!

It is very important to know what the deadline is for submitting your college application to be considered for the Merit Scholarships. Many colleges require the application to be submitted by the Priority or Early Action deadline to be considered for the Merit Scholarships.

This can be as early as November 1 or sometimes October 15.

Check your colleges for the date so you don’t miss it!


Check Your Colleges

By searching the website for your colleges for scholarships or Merit aid you should be able to discover if your college offers Merit Scholarships and the process and deadline for applying to be considered.


In addition, most colleges will accept new scores and GPAs until a certain deadline for the merit scholarships even after you have submitted your application. Be sure to check with your colleges.
